So we, being many, are one body in Christ,
and every one members one of another.
The ancient Gods of the pagan world have been reborn! This fact is most evident in the endless stream of movies and Television shows depicting ancient Gods as Superhero’s or in a poor retelling of tales from epic literature. Movies such as THOR, The Immortals, Clash of the Titans, Hercules and many other have ruled the big screen, raking in untold millions. With so much financial wealth to be gained it is little wonder that the so-called Gods of the Afro – Carribbean Yoruba religions wouldn’t seek to cash in as well. These ancient Deities of Yoruba referred to as Orisha’s may not be as well known as their European counterparts, but they do enjoy a distinct advantage. While the Pantheons of Greek and Norse Gods are now relegated to the realm of myth and legends; for those who dare to delve into the worlds of Hoodoo, Voodoo, Obeah and Santeria, Orisha’s are still a part of everyday life. In the soon to be released movie “Oya Rise of the Orisha”, the Gods of the Yoruba religions have been repackaged as modern day Superhero’s.
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
The heavenly father makes it clear in Biblical text that he is the one and ONLY true GOD and Creator of All. There is no Pantheon of either Greek, Norse, or Yoruba deities that represents anything other than idolatry and witchcraft – both of which are detestable sins in the eyes of God.
4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.20 But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
Although this new movie will attempt to repackage the Orishas with a sense of fantastical innocence, the disturbing truth is that these evil spirits of Hoodoo, Voodoo, Obeah and Santeria may soon have access to even more lost souls.
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
