Man Divorces Wife for Being Ugly!

This is a topic which on the surface may appear quite comical or at the very least bizarre. However after examining these events in relation to the Holy Bible we come to understand that this addresses a topic which is far more serious. Thousands of marriages end every year based on circumstances and events which have no basis in scripture. By examining the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ we will come to understand just how wicked and perverse this practice of unjustly separating from a wife truly is.

Matthew 19 (3) The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? (4) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, (5) And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? (6) Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

The Lord further clarifies in vs. 9 of the same chapter

(9 )And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

According to our Lord Jesus Christ, a woman could not be divorced based on every foolish whim dreamed up by an unhappy husband. The Lord goes even further by stating that the only way a man can lawfully divorce his wife is for fornication in the form of infidelity or sexual immorality. The apostle Peter also addressed the topic of a woman’s physical appearance in contrast to her spiritual beauty.

1st peter 3 (3) Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; (4) But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

There is an old saying that true beauty is on the inside. The Apostle Peter explains this concept more perfectly. Although there is no commandment forbidding a woman to adorn herself in glorious clothing and have a lovely hairdo; the scriptures emphasize that her meek, humble, quiet and loving spirit is of the greatest value.

Proverbs 31:30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

In conclusion, the scriptures tell us that favor and beauty are worthless compared to the attributes possessed by a woman who fears the Lord!
