Romantic Love vs. True Love

In February, many people around the world celebrate Valentine’s Day as a day dedicated to love and romantic relationships. But we must ask an important question: Is it truly a day about love? Or has the world redefined love according to its own desires?

According to the Scriptures, love is not defined by emotions, romance, or physical attraction. The biblical definition of love is clear: love is keeping the commandments of the Most High. True love is demonstrated through obedience, not feelings. When we love God, we keep His laws. When we love one another, we treat each other according to those same commandments.

Reverence, respect, faithfulness, and righteousness are the true hallmarks of a loving relationship in Christ. These principles govern how a man and a woman conduct themselves before marriage and how they remain committed within marriage. The modern idea of “romantic love” as a necessary precursor to marriage is not a commandment established by the Most High. It is a worldly concept rooted in emotion, fantasy, and fleshly desire rather than discipline and godliness.

Valentine’s Day, with its customs, symbols, idolatrous origins, and promotion of sexual immorality, stands in direct opposition to biblical love. It glorifies passion without responsibility and desire without righteousness. This celebration has nothing to do with love as defined by the Scriptures.

In truth, it is not about love at all. It is about lust.
