Being Aware of the Time and Preparing Ourselves

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. Mark 13:32-33

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3

It’s very easy to get caught up in our every day lives and be distracted by all the different things that are happening in the world. But our Lord and savior Jesus Christ told us to watch and take heed. Meaning, we’re watching the things that we’re doing whether or not they’re in line with God’s commandments and repenting from our sins.

With all the different ways to get distracted, many of us fall hook line and sinker for them. Whether it be getting all fired up over the latest political agenda that’s being pushed in the media, to being addicted to our smart phones or being bewitched by the many foolishness that’s on Facebook and other social media outlets.

Many of us let it slip that we are living in the last days and Jesus Christ can return at any minute, catching us unprepared.

Luke 21:34-35  And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

We should endeavor to live a righteous life and stop from doing things like – being a drunkard or a fornicator.

Romans 13:11-14 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

When Jesus Christ came on the earth, his sole mission was to die as a sacrifice for us and to teach us repentance to prepare us for the kingdom of heaven.

Mark 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t think about these things until a major disaster strikes, such as a tsunami or the world trade center bombings.

Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

The scriptures tell us that we must seek the Lord while he may be found and repent while there is still opportunity as opposed to waiting for the next catastrophe.

Revelation 1:1, 3 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
