Salvation was one of
the purposes of Christ coming in the flesh.
Why do we need Salvation?
Matt 1:21
and she shall bring forth a
son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save
his people from their sins.
Rom 3:23
For
all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
1John 1:10
If we say
that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not
in us.
What is sin? 1John 3:4
whosoever committeth sin
transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1Sam 15:24
and Saul
said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment
of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed
their voice.
(Simply put, sin is doing things in your life that are contrary to the word of
God.)
How does one sin? Jam 1:13-15
Let no man say when he is
tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither
tempteth he any man: 14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away
of his own lust, and enticed. 15) Then when lust hath conceived,
it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth
death.
What did
Christ teach us about salvation?
Matt 24:13
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be
saved.
What should we be enduring in, and for how long?
Rev 2:10
Fear
none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast
some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation
ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a
crown of life.
Matt 19:16-17
16) And, behold, one came
and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may
have eternal life?
17) And he said unto him,
Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is,
God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Luke 10:25-28
25) And,
behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what
shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26) He said unto him, What is
written in the law? how readest thou? 27) And he answering said, Thou
shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with
all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. 28) And
he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
The Scriptures conclude that receiving the blessing of salvation is predicated
on living our lives according to the commandments of God with faith in Christ.
Examine our consummate example Christ.
Philip 2:8
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and
became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Christ
humbled himself to, and obeyed the word of God until his death on the cross.
Heb 5:5-9
5)
So also Christ
glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou
art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6) As he saith also in another place,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7) Who in the
days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong
crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death,
and was heard in that he feared; 8) Though he were a Son, yet learned he
obedience by the things which he suffered; 9) And being made perfect, he
became the author of eternal salvation unto all them
that obey him;
John 3:17
For God sent not his Son into the
world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(Might be saved by following the example of Christ by leaving darkness and
following Christ as the light); John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them,
saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 3:20-21 for
every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest
his deeds should be reproved. 21) But he that doeth truth cometh
to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
(What is truth?)
John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Christ taught us to use the light as the measuring stick,
whether our deeds are right or wrong according to the word of God;
Proverbs 6:23
For
the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of
instruction are the way of life:
2Tim 3:15
And that from a child thou hast known
the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
In conclusion we obtain salvation by
following the word of God through Christ.
Matt 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
John 6:63
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and they are life
