Distractions from what really matters

distraction

Distraction: A thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else or extreme agitation of the mind or emotions.

In the world that we live in today, there are many distractions to get caught up in and it’s very easy to get all fired up about any and every issue that’s pushed through the media or gets circulated on social media.

mass destruction

Take for example, the Colin Kaepernick issue with some people now burning Nike sneakers because of the commercial that he did.

Or another example is the midterm election that’s coming up, how people are getting fired up over the different political parties and their specific issues.

People get emotionally charged when discussing these and other issues and spend their entire energy and time debating or getting emotionally charged up about them.

Should we be that way?

The answer unequivocally is no!

What should we spend all our time and energy on and getting emotionally charged up about?

Combating the wicked minds that we ALL have [read Genesis 6:5], repenting from our sins, always looking to see how we can serve the Lord better and preparing ourselves for the day of judgement.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

It’s easy to get caught up in the affairs of this life but Christ warned us not to.

Luke 21:34-36 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Let’s look at the definition of the word distraction again.

A thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else or extreme agitation of the mind or emotions.

Let’s look at some events that took place when Christ was on the earth, as the people that came to Christ in these scenarios fall into the above definition.

Luke 13:1-5 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. [So innocent people were killed by this Roman ruler]

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

These are easy distractions to get fired up about and to spend all your focus on the events and you see that Christ did not even go there. He instead focused on what really matters; us repenting from our sins and living more godly.

So today with all the foolishness that’s out there in the world,

distraction

like the Colin Kaepernick issue, the really foolish elections that are coming up or any other issues that people get fired up about, do they really matter in the grand scheme of things?

1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
